Harvey Chevous a member at Woodbridge Tennis ClubMeet Harvey Chevous, a regular at Woodbridge Tennis Club and passion about all aspects of the game.

When did you start playing tennis?

I started playing when I was around ten years old in my front garden. My neighbour needed somebody to hit against as he had a tournament coming up and I just got hooked from there.

What do you love about the game?

I love the fact that anybody can beat anybody. One day you could be playing out of your skin and the next day it may not go your way – it’s so unpredictable.

What has been the high point of your playing career so far?

It would have to be getting to the semi-finals of the county road to Wimbledon championships and coming back from a set and 5-0 down to win the match.

Who is your all-time tennis hero and why?

Roger Federer. He has just been so consistent for years and has never really dropped off at all. He’s also still winning titles at his age! It’s incredible!

Who would you most like to play – current or former tennis stars?

I would love to play against Novak Djokovic. Simply because he just gets everything back and it would be a good test of my consistency and stamina.

How do you think you’d do against him?

Well, I’d certainly give it a good shot but I don’t reckon I’d fair too well after watching the Wimbledon final this year and seeing the quality of that match! Maybe I’ll get a set…

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given about playing?

I’ve been given lots of great advice but the best is to probably play every point like it’s your last.

What’s the best way to improve your game?

The best way to improve in my opinion is to play against people who are better than you. It may be scary but you learn a lot from losing to people better than you.

Which current tennis players would be good fun for a day out in Woodbridge?

Harvey says Stefanos Tsitsipas would be good fun

I would say Alex Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas would be good for a day out because they are young and energetic. I would probably take them for a trip round the river.

What is the best part of your game?

The best aspect of my game is my forehand. I can either play very consistently or very aggressively with it as well.

What’s not so good/room for improvement?

A weaker aspect of my game is most likely my backhand. This is because I struggle to attack off that side.

What’s your favourite film?

My favourite film is Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge Of The Sith. I love the Star Wars series, I could watch them all over and over again!

What music are you into?

I’m really into pop music and I quite like listening to rap music as well.

What do you like doing away from the court?

I like listening to music and playing games in my spare time. I also love relaxing in the sun!

What makes Woodbridge Tennis Club special?

Woodbridge tennis club is special because it invites all abilities of tennis players to come and play. The club sessions especially encourage this as well. It’s also a very special club to me because it is the place where I first played tennis and the reason I still love the sport to this day.
